Abstract
To evaluate the currently using CPDA-1 blood components which are supplied from the Korean Red Cross Blood Center, 100 units of whole bloods, 100 units of packed red blood cells, 100 units of fresh frozen plasma and 50 units of platelet
concentrates
were analyzed, and the characteristics of blood donations between hospital transfusion service and the Korean Red Cross Blood Center were compared.
The volume of whole blood, packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma and platelet concentrates was 375¡¾12 mL, 245¡¾15 mL, 157¡¾11 ML and 37.9¡¾3.1 mL, respectively. The platelet concentrates contained platelets of (6.24¡¾1.66)¡¿10E10 per unit
with
the contamination of red blood cells and white blood cells at the level of (1.61¡¾0.59)¡¿10E9 and (1.52¡¾2.41)¡¿10E8 per unit, respectively.
The erroneous labelling of ABO type at blood bay was found to be 4 among 106,170 blood components (0.0038%) which were supplied from the Korean Red Cross Blood Center.
Different characteristics in blood donations between hospital transfusion service and the Korean Red Cross Blood Center were more female and ages above 40years and Rho(D) negative donors donated at hospital transfusion service than at the Korean
Red Cross Blood Center.
